Interactive Stories

Deeper engagement with an exploration-encouraging video kiosk.

For our Interactive Stories project at MMGM, we augmented a traditional video kiosk with levels of interactivity for deeper engagement. Throughout the museum, each “chapter” of a rotating themed video story (created by The Story Board) is displayed on a kiosk. As visitors watch each chapter throughout their museum experience,  the people and places mentioned are highlighted in real time, giving visitors the option to explore a topic further before continuing with the main video.

By elevating the oral history experience from meandering to narrative and from static to interactive, we were able to give the visitor control over their personal level of engagement with the content. The end result distills hundreds of hours of oral histories into a cohesive set of interactives that connect visitors to the people, places, and stories of Maine’s mining history.
